Research Partners

The best research, the kind that examines people’s experiences, comes from encountering those people face-to-face. Yes, surveys can tell us what is happening, but only by meeting them in their communities, their homes, do we learn how and why things happen to people.

Research funding allows that to happen. For whether it’s a plane ticket to New York City, or an AirBnB room in rural Missouri, funding has makes it possible to sit down and hear the people I need to.

Caitlyn Jenner Foundation

In the very earliest days of my research leaders from the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation encouraged me to keep going. On some days, they were the only people that seemed to believe in me. Certainly, the financial support has meant a great deal. But their early belief in me is what’s made the difference.

University of Oregon School of Journalism & Communication(SOJC)

On paper, the SOJC’s support is called a teaching fellowship. In reality it’s been unfettered acceptance of me since I began my life as a transgender researcher. Whether systematic support or increased funding, its support has made my projects bloom; the SOJC isn’t just the building where I started my research, it’s the foundation that’s made all of it possible.
